SOBER LIVING HOMES FOR RECOVERY

Helping People in Recovery Take Back Their Lives

Executive Director, Earl Thiessen shares his story.

Oxford House Foundation of Canada meets the unique needs of men and women in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction through safe, affordable housing and support.

Through the provision of a home and support offered by experienced staff, Oxford residents are empowered to take responsibility for their own recovery and make valuable contributions in their community.

Recovery without relapse is possible in an Oxford home. Each home forms its own family and is situated in a suburban neighbourhood away from danger areas.

Through staff support and peer support from other residents, people in recovery find understanding and hope while learning how to live with life’s challenges.

Our Mission

To provide people in recovery from addictions, a supportive program and safe home to achieve a productive, rewarding, clean sober life.

Our Vision

Individuals in recovery are empowered to take responsibility for themselves and thrive in every aspect of their lives.

HOW OXFORD HOUSE WORKS

When men and women in recovery come to Oxford House, they have already taken some important steps on their road to recovery. They’re ready to work hard to maintain their recovery and take the necessary steps toward independent, financially sustainable and more fulfilling lives. And when they move into an Oxford Home, they know we’ll welcome and support them with information and resources within the recovery, and greater community.

WHY OXFORD HOUSE WORKS

Because we’ve been there and understand that acceptance, hope, honesty, personal accountability, goal setting, and gratitude are crucial to long-term recovery. When asked why the program works, residents respond:

  • They’ve learned life skills such as conflict resolution, listening, cooperation and assertiveness

  • They are able to focus on self-care, recovery, have good social supports in place

  • They’ve learned to become accountable and responsible

  • They are healing family relationships and building new healthy relationships

  • They feel safe, increased self worth/ confidence/ esteem

OUR PROGRAMS

Transitional Recovery Housing Program

Your Oxford Home is a safe and affordable place to take your life back.

You’ve already taken some important steps on your road to recovery. And you know that you are now ready to take your life back.

It’s not going to be easy. You’re going to work hard. You get out what you put in. But if you take this next step, we’ll support you.

Pre-Treatment Housing Program

Oxford House Foundation knows that it is crucial to have a stable continuum from the moment an individual decides to become sober all the way through to treatment and after with all safe guards in place. The period for people waiting to get into treatment is one of the most stressful periods for a person making the decision to become sober.

Entry Level Housing Program

Entry Level Housing is for new residents who are not yet employed, have been chronically homeless or institutionalized and who need assistance to help them move forward. Entry Level Housing provides incentive for individuals to motivate themselves for a better, more prosperous future in all aspects of their lives.

Indigenous Housing Program

Oxford House acknowledges their residents’ experienced trauma and promotes a culture of safety and appropriate services that reflect the Indigenous concept of healing which uses the metaphor of a journey that is an “ongoing process of self-transformation.”

  • “ Living in an Oxford House home has taught me that I have responsibilities not only to myself, but to other people as well.”

  • “ Oxford House helped me to re-learn many of the daily living skills I once took for granted.”

  • “ I chose drugs and alcohol to feed my shame of what happened to me. Reconnecting to my culture helped me to heal. ”

  • “ Thank you for providing a safe haven for those who are in need at such a vulnerable time in life.”
