Creative Ideas for Giving

At Oxford House, we believe in the power of family!

That's why we've created the Oxford House Family Monthly Donor Program, a way for you to join our family and support our communities as they build their best lives.

By becoming a monthly donor, you'll not only be making a difference in someone's life, but you'll also see just how far your support can go! For just $9 a day, you can provide a home for someone at Oxford House.

That's just $9 a month covers a day. $63 a month will cover an entire week. Really, really want to help? $275 will cover a whole month!

AND, your donations up to $10,000 will be matched by The Canadian Tilling Foundation!

Your donation, no matter the amount, will make a lasting impact and symbolizes hope for someone who had the courage to change their life.

As a part of the Oxford House Family, you'll receive the following:

  • A consolidated tax receipt at the beginning of each calendar year. The opportunity to establish a closer relationship with Oxford House and its mission through invitations to events and regular updates.

  • The satisfaction of knowing that your generous commitment empowers Oxford House to provide homes and support for those in recovery.

  • An Oxford House key tag that symbolizes your effort to put the keys of a home in the hands of someone who is in recovery.

  • Special recognition as a member of our generous family of supporters in our annual report *if requested

Planned Giving

A planned gift allows you to make provisions in your financial planning for Oxford House through a gift or bequest, life insurance, stocks/bonds or trust agreement.

Bequests

A charitable bequest is simply a distribution from your estate to a charitable organization through your last will and testament. There are a few types of charitable bequests, for example:

  • General Bequests are legacies left to certain people or causes that come from the general value of the estate, and are made by designating a specific dollar amount, a particular asset or a fixed percentage of your estate to the cause of your choice.

  • Specific Bequests are made when a particular item or property is bequeathed for a designated purpose.

  • Residuary Bequests are made when you intend to leave the residue portion (any left over property) of your assets after other terms of the will have been satisfied.

  • Contingency Bequests allow you to leave a portion of your estate to a particular charity if your named beneficiary does not survive you.

Gifts of Insurance

A gift of life insurance is made when you name a charitable organization of your choice as the beneficiary. This means that you control the policy, and the organization would receive the insurance proceeds upon death.

Gifting Listed Securities

A cash or security gift is an amount made out to a charitable organization of your choice. Gifts of cash are available for immediate use in the form of cash, cheque, credit card, or pre-authorized contributions paid monthly. They can also be given in the form of a general bequest in your will and testament.

Gifting Retirement Funds

Gifts of retirement plans are made when you name a charitable organization of your choice as the beneficiary. This means that upon your death the organization would receive the proceeds and you’re estate will receive a charitable receipt. This receipt will counterbalance your final tax return, transforming any final tax liabilities you have when you die into a charitable gift.

Charitable Gift Annuities

A gift of annuity is made when you make a contribution of cash or other property to a charitable organization of your choice in exchange for a guaranteed lifetime income (or for a stated interval of time). It is an agreement or contract between you and your organization of choice. Upon death, the charitable organization of your choice would receive the remainder of the original contribution. Depending on the time elapsed the organization of your choice may get more or less than the original contribution. If an annuity is started when you are between the ages of 75-90 you can receive tax free income. If an annuity is started when you are between the ages of 65-74 you can receive partially tax free income. Where the income is totally tax free, you will receive a donation receipt equalling the initial amount of your contribution minus your expected annuity income.

Employee Giving

Support Oxford House through your company’s annual corporate giving campaign. It is a convenient way to give your contribution through regular payroll deductions.

Workplace giving is voluntary and allows employees to donate a nominated amount per month through your company’s payroll deduction system (subject to your employee’s agreement). The pledge can be anything from a couple of dollars to several hundred per month.

For more information about if your company offers this opportunity, please contact your company’s charitable giving or human resources representative.

Corporate Matching Gifts

Corporate matching gifts are an easy way for you to increase the impact of your donation to Oxford House. Many employers offer a corporate matching gift program which financially matches donations that you make to registered charities such as Oxford House.
In some instances, even the gifts of an employee’s spouse or a company retiree will be matched. By taking advantage of your company’s gift matching program, you’re helping to increase – even double the value of your gift.

When an organization matches its employee’s contributions, employees know their charitable donations go further and that their commitment to building hope in our community is a value shared by their employer.

For more information about if your company offers this program and how it works, please contact your company’s charitable giving or human resources representative.

Volunteer Grants

When you volunteer at Oxford House, your company may make a financial contribution on behalf of the time you spend helping us. This is called a volunteer grants program.

To get started or find out if your company has a volunteer grants program, contact your human resources department and then give Oxford House any documentation/forms to be filled out for you to submit a request.

Donation in Honour or Celebration

Make a donation in honour of someone special in recognition of a special occasion – such as a birthday, graduation, holiday, anniversary, or wedding. Oxford House will send a letter or card on your behalf acknowledging your thoughtful donation. This is the perfect gift for the hard to buy for or the one who has everything.

Donation in Memory

An In Memoriam Donation is a meaningful way for friends and relatives to remember someone special. Once your donation is received, a card of condolence will be mailed to the next of kin you would like notified.
